BUSAN GYEONGNAM RACE PARK
2015 was a great year for racing in Korea, with so many changes taking place and new ideas being put into action. Korea opened their doors and welcomed foreign investors into the before, only Korean Industry. Though there are differences between domestic and foreign investors, the battle field is fair and the purses are paid. Korea boast the 3rd highest purses in the world, and are set on improvement and success amoungst the best in the world. Change is coming in the not too distant future and this will be beneficial for the entire racing industry.
With the expansion of the racing fan base in Korea, the KRA has been committed to spreading horse racing nationwide. In response, the KRA commenced construction of a new Race Park in Korea's second largest city, Busan, in August 2001, with its opening in September 2005. The main facilities of the Busan Gyeongnam Race Park are as follow:
There are three sand tracks. The circumference of inner and outer race tracks is 1470m and 2000m respectively, and 25m in width. Training track is 1300m in length and 20m in width. The home straight has a 460m run to the winning post.
There is 1 grandstand which accommodates 15 000 people and is equipped with various facilities for the convenience of racing fans.
The stable area can accommodate about 1000 horses and are well equipped with paddocks, waking Machines and lunge rings. There are 3 Veterinarians on course who are available 7 days a week.
Each race day hosts anywhere between 30 - 50 000 spectators/punters with tote turnovers averaging as high as US$3million.
The Horse Theme & Riding Park is the center area of the park where visitors will be able to enjoy its many features that are horse related such as children's pony rides, racing simulation machines, children's multi entertainment area and the four season sled hill. When the sun goes down the lights come on! An evening spent walking around the Illumia park is an evening not to be missed, it's a great outing for the whole family, where you see an incredible display of lights and music fountains. They offer a great selection of food and small stalls to buy souvenirs and kiddies toys.
